I don't think it's ever gone out of fashion! :-)
Onsite content needs to build relevance by including intent-based research to help build content, also choosing the best media and format that satisfies that intent (e.g, video vs copy, graphics vs lists etc.)
Offsite content needs to build authority around key topics that connect with brand expertise, intent and goals...
More than king...as my fellow conference colleague Arnie Keunn says.. "Content is President" :-)
My thought is that SEO folks *should* be creating media that connects with a target audience, around target topics, that align with a specific intent and needs.
Driven by research. All fun.
